This style of Flight Jacket evolved in the 1950's as the USA looked back for inspiration to the exploits of Air Crews in their A-2 Jackets. Although the A-2 pocket has been replaced with the corded border in this four pocket design, this style of jacket is still typically referred to as a "Bomber" Jacket or "Fly Boys" jacket.
Our Flight Jacket typically uses the same Heavy Horsehide widely used during the period, and the same typical blanket or cotton linings that were popular at the time. These flight jackets are cut from our typical 1950's pattern block, the same we use for all our jackets of that era.
The cut of this flight jacket "loosely" resembles the style of the Type A-2 whilst retaining that typical authentic "fliers" look, yet with a wee bit more room for more comfort and movement than the WW2 Type A-2.
This 1950s Leather Flight Jacket is available with a fur collar upon request.
This flight jacket is a 1950s inspired design which offers a fit with quite a bit of room around the body which was typical of the more relaxed fitting styles of this era.
The perceived ‘correct’ fit of the 1950s was generally more ‘oversized’ than modern sizing, so we typically recommend either selecting your usual size for this style to achieve the intended ‘1950s’ relaxed fit, although many choose to size down for a more modern fitted look.
Don’t worry, all sizing information displayed here is only a guide. Every order placed is checked over by a member of our production team who will confirm your size selection against your measurements or recommend any necessary changes that need to be made. If you have any specific queries, you can note these in the special instructions box on the ‘measurements’ page when placing your order.
