Brown Leather Jackets
Black may be the classic, but brown leather jackets have long held their own as a cornerstone of men’s dress. From the cockpits of the 1930s to the streets of post-war Britain and America, brown leather carries a depth and character that only improves with age.
At Aero Leather Clothing, many of our vintage reproductions are available in a range of richly finished brown hides - from Dark chestnuts to to lighter mid-browns that will patinate beautifully over time. Below you’ll find a selection of our jackets as examples with listing pictures in Brown, but almost all of our styles are available in a range of Brown leathers.
Vintage Brown Leather Jackets
At Aero Leather Clothing, we specialise in authentic vintage leather jackets inspired by the 1920s through to the 1950s. Our brown leather jackets include faithful reproductions of original flight jackets, half belts, work coats and motorcycle styles — patterns developed from period originals and recreated with close attention to historical detail.
In the early twentieth century, brown leather was the practical choice for aviators and military airmen. Flight jackets were produced in seal, russet and other deep brown tones, chosen for durability, warmth and service life. Those same qualities remain today. A well-made brown leather jacket develops a unique patina, softening and shaping to its wearer over years of use.
Each Aero jacket is handmade in Scotland by a skilled maker, using full-grain horsehide, steerhide or goatskin selected for character and longevity. The result is not simply a garment, but a piece designed to be worn in, not worn out.
If you are considering one of our brown leather jackets and would like guidance on leather types, shades, or sizing, we are always pleased to assist. Please note that many of our made-to-order styles can be produced in brown leather, even where photographed in black - you can view our full selection here

Brown Leather Jackets FAQS
- Why choose a brown leather jacket?
Apart from just preferring the look, brown leather jackets have a long heritage in early aviation and mid-century workwear. Seal and russet tones were widely used in original flight jackets and workwear styles of the 1930s and 1940s. Brown leather also develops visible patina over time, often showing more tonal depth and character than black. For many, this evolving finish is part of the appeal.
