Like many items of work and leisure wear from The Great Depression years, our Maxwell replicates what was then a fairly new Half Belt back design. Due to the flattering profile and the practicality of a side fastening which could be drawn in to retain warmth in all conditions this design gained rapid popularity with the US. It would be fair to say that our jacket perfectly replicates the character of many utility jackets from the days just before the advent of separating zippers.

Our jacket is based on our 1930s half belt pattern, giving it the correct slim, neat fit of that era. The jacket closes using hand sewn Corozo buttons, has button fastening cuffs and has a classic half belt back which was still a fairly new design in 1930.

This jacket is a 1930s inspired design which offers a closer fit to the body as was typical of the slimmer fitting styles of this era.

The perceived ‘correct’ fit of the 1930s is generally similar to modern sizing, so we typically recommend selecting your usual size for this style to achieve the intended fit.

We very rarely recommend sizing down.
