Flying Jackets

Flying jackets were originally designed for pilots, particularly during World War I and II, to provide warmth and protection in open air cockpits. They are characterised by their short length (designed to allow for movement in the cockpit), ribbed cuffs and waistband (designed to provide extra insulation) and often fur or sheepskin lining for extra warmth.

Over time, flying jackets, also known as bomber jackets, have transitioned from military wear to a fashion staple in popular culture, frequently associated with themes of adventure and rebellion. Flying Jackets by Aero Leathers

At Aero Leathers, we specialise in the recreation of historical flight jackets, particularly those worn by pilots and crew of the USAAF and RAF during the 1920s-1940s. We are well known for our dedication to authenticity and craftmanship, using original patterns and traditional working methods to recreate our amazing vintage military styles.
