This styling of this 1920s all-purpose jacket typifies outer clothing from an era when most folk could only afford the one jacket and it had to be utterly practical as well as weatherproof.

We've taken our inspiration from the utilitarian clothing worn by the migrant workers who rode the rails looking for work, the poor Hobo who travelled America in box carts, when times were really hard, we've taken the name "Mulligan" from Mulligan's Stew, the staple diet of these hardy men. This is why we've fitted pocket flaps to all three pockets, it would have been all too easy for the travelling man to loose some of his precious belongings while jumping off and onto moving trains, these pocket flaps helped keep these meagre possessions safe and secure and today, almost a century on, will do the same thing.

Based on our archive 1920s patterns, this stylish and practical jacket has the correct slim, neat fit of that period. The jacket closes using hand sewn Corozo buttons, has button fastening cuffs and has a classic half belt back which replicates the unique character of utility jackets from the 1920s, note the classic corded pocket profile below the cargo pocket flaps.

This jacket is a 1920s inspired design which offers a closer fit to the body with a fairly straight cut as was typical of the slimmer fitting styles of this era.

Additionally, the jacket’s side adjusters can be cinched in at the natural waist to provide a more fitted look around the waist while retaining room around the chest and shoulders, or alternatively, they can be loosened out to provide more room for layering.

We typically recommend selecting your usual size for this style (the one closest to your expanded chest measurement) to achieve the intended fit. We very rarely recommend sizing down.
